Anthony Edwards’ Ideal Starting Five

Edwards has built a team focused on scoring, skills, and notable talent.

He chose Steph Curry as the point guard. Many young players see Curry as the best in this position due to his long-range shooting and ability to change defensive strategies. Edwards has expressed his admiration for Curry, calling him the greatest point guard ever.

At shooting guard, Edwards made a surprising choice—he picked himself. The 24-year-old stated that this decision required some adjustments in the lineup.

Michael Jordan shifted to small forward. While Jordan established himself as a shooting guard with the Chicago Bulls, Edwards managed to include him in the lineup.

This move allowed Edwards to secure his position while keeping Jordan on the court, who many still consider the best player in history.

Next, he selected Kevin Durant. Durant is hard to classify position-wise; though he’s mostly considered a forward, his game is quite versatile. Nearly seven feet tall, he dribbles like a guard and can score from almost anywhere. His combination of skills challenges defenders constantly.

Edwards has previously stated that Durant is his favorite player, so this choice was expected.

For the center spot, Edwards considered Hakeem Olajuwon for his exceptional post skills but ultimately chose Shaquille O’Neal. During his prime, Shaq was nearly unstoppable; teams often double-teamed him, but it rarely worked. His size made him a dominant force near the basket.

The lineup reflects how Edwards sees the game.

With Curry and Durant’s shooting ability, Jordan’s competitive spirit, and Shaq’s control in the paint, Edwards positions himself as the scoring guard.

Curry has changed defensive strategies with his shooting range, while Durant’s size and skill show that tall players can exhibit guard-like abilities. Shaq represents a time when powerful centers influenced game outcomes.

Edwards clearly enjoyed forming this team, but his inclusion stood out. His confidence is evident, suggesting he sees himself as part of the elite players he admired growing up.
