Nikola Jokic expressed his thoughts on the idea of leaving the Denver Nuggets.
The Serbian star, known for being private off the court, shared surprisingly candid insights during an interview with Edin Avdic on the X’s & O’s podcast. Jokic spoke in Serbian, making the conversation feel more personal.
When asked about the possibility of playing for another team, Jokic firmly rejected the idea.
“I wouldn’t like to imagine that,” Jokic said, as translated by DNVR. “Even if we never win anything else after this, an organic title, it means more to me than anything. I really found peace here. My two kids were born here. Everyone’s here. Peace, home, I found my life here. And I like life here. I don’t feel the need, I don’t have the urge to. We built something here, together as a team.”
Jokic aims to follow the example of Dirk Nowitzki by staying with one team throughout his career. With a championship already in hand, he seems satisfied to continue in Denver.
While there’s always a chance Jokic could change his mind, similar to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent trade rumors, he currently appears content. Antetokounmpo has voiced disappointment with the Bucks organization despite winning a title in 2021. However, Jokic seems happy where he is.
For Nuggets fans, it’s noteworthy to see Jokic in a two-hour interview, especially since he usually avoids the media. Reporters hoping to interview him might need to learn Serbian.
