Happy 33rd birthday to 10-time NBA All-Star, five-time All-NBA selection, 2020 NBA Finals winner, and 2012 first-overall draft pick, Anthony Davis!
The New Orleans Hornets selected Davis after his impressive freshman year at Kentucky, where he earned every major Player of the Year award and helped secure a national championship. In the final game against Kansas, he scored six points but recorded 16 rebounds and five assists. He later participated in the London Olympics with Team USA, winning a gold medal despite a limited role.
Over his 14 NBA seasons, he has built a strong resume for the Hall of Fame, although injuries have been a challenge. Davis has played 807 games, averaging 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. Recently, Davis was involved in the trade that brought Luka Doncic to Los Angeles from Dallas. About a year later, he was traded again to the Washington Wizards but has not yet played this season due to a hand injury.
This leads us to today’s quiz. In his prime, Davis was as formidable a defender as he was an offensive player, having led the NBA in blocks-per-game three times. How many NBA blocks champions since the NBA/ABA merger can you name in seven minutes?
Good luck!
