Tottenham may consider Gus Poyet if Igor Tudor is dismissed soon
Four matches. Four losses. 14 goals conceded and only five scored. It looks bad for Igor Tudor at Tottenham. Tudor was hired to stabilize the team after Thomas Frank was let go, but the results have not met expectations.
The team is near the bottom of the Premier League, just above the relegation zone. If they do not start winning soon, there is a genuine chance they could drop to a lower division. The team’s morale seems low, and since Tudor’s arrival, there has been little effort from the players to improve their situation.
They are close to falling into the relegation zone, having not won in their last 11 league matches. Moreover, Spurs could exit the Champions League after a heavy 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Last 16. Under Tudor’s leadership, there are no clear signs of improvement.
Gus Poyet expresses interest in managing Tottenham until the end of the season
Many did not believe Tottenham would be facing relegation this season. After sacking Thomas Frank in February, Tudor was brought in as the interim manager but has struggled in the role. There’s a good chance he may also be replaced, which would mean a third manager for the season.
Gus Poyet, who previously played for Tottenham, is interested in the managerial position. He believes he can help the club avoid relegation. In an interview, Poyet said,
“With respect to Igor, yes – for sure. I mean, I know everything. Sometimes they don’t put me in that position. But you know, I remember before Igor Tudor got the job, people were talking about Robbie Keane – rightly so. They were talking about Tim Sherwood – rightly so. Even Harry Redknapp, they were asking him. And I was sitting at home and I’m thinking, ‘Why not me?’ I’ve been there. I know the place, I know the relegation battle.”
He added,
“I know what needs to be done. I have the experience, and I know the Premier League. It’s funny that my name isn’t mentioned, but that’s how it is. You need to put yourself out there. If they think it’s me [for the job] I would be more than happy but it wasn’t me. Now I just hope Igor manages to sort it out and keeps Tottenham up.”
Poyet is confident he could be a good fit at Tottenham due to his prior experience as an assistant manager and player there. He has handled relegation struggles before, helping Sunderland avoid the drop in 2016. He knows what needs to be done and believes he could help Spurs stay in the Premier League.
Igor Tudor’s time at Tottenham seems to be nearing its end. The result against Liverpool could determine his future. Spurs must appoint someone who understands the club’s values in order to have a chance at avoiding relegation and maintaining their status in the top division this season.
