Antonin Kinsky had a difficult Champions League debut as Tottenham Hotspur lost 5-2 to Atletico Madrid.
Tottenham is still looking for their first Premier League win of 2026 and has fallen to 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone with nine games remaining.
In a recent Champions League match, Tottenham faced a significant defeat against Atletico Madrid. The team conceded four goals in the first 22 minutes, and Kinsky, making his debut, was responsible for two of the goals. He was replaced after just 17 minutes, with the team already down 3-0 at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
As he left the field, Kinsky received support from several teammates. After the match, goalkeepers David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois expressed their sympathy towards him, while some analysts criticized the way Igor Tudor handled Kinsky’s debut.
Advice for Antonin Kinsky from Former Belgium Goalkeeper
Filip De Wilde, a former Belgium goalkeeper, has also offered support to Kinsky. De Wilde, who faced similar challenges during his career, believes the best way for Kinsky to move forward is to play again soon.
“Acknowledging your mistakes is important. Support from experienced goalkeepers like De Gea helps. However, the best way to heal is to get back in goal this weekend,” De Wilde stated in an interview with Belgian media outlet Het Nieuwsblad.
“I had a strong season with Anderlecht after Euro 2000. That’s the best remedy: just play again immediately.”
Limited Future Appearances for Kinsky this Season
Kinsky’s debut was disappointing. After months of waiting for his chance, he underperformed and did not meet expectations. Starting in such a challenging match may not have been fair to him, so he isn’t solely to blame for the poor performance in Spain.
It’s unlikely that Kinsky will play again this season. His confidence has taken a hit, and with Tottenham needing to treat each of their remaining league matches as crucial, Tudor is expected to keep Guglielmo Vicario as the starting goalkeeper, despite Vicario’s inconsistent form.
Additionally, reports indicate that Kinsky may look for a loan move during the summer to aid his development following this setback. The club appears willing to support this decision, suggesting a temporary separation could benefit his career.
