Keith Wyness recently provided an update to Football Insider regarding the search for a new manager at Celtic Park. He stated that Jens Berthel Askou from Motherwell is currently the top candidate for the position. This comes as Martin O’Neill prepares to conclude his interim role at the end of the season, having stepped in to guide the team after Wilfried Nancy’s challenging time as head coach. Askou has impressed this season, leading Motherwell to fourth place in the Scottish Premiership, only ten points behind leaders Hearts.

Wyness, who has experience at clubs like Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton, believes the 43-year-old Danish coach is an ideal choice due to his familiarity with the league. He mentioned that the board sees Askou as a more sensible option compared to other names previously linked to roles in Major League Soccer.

“He is the obvious choice because he understands the SPL. He’s leading the team well and aligns with the style of football the Celtic fans want. I think he would be a great selection. It makes much more sense than hiring someone from the MLS. I believe this move is likely to happen, and he’s the right fit for Celtic.”

Supporters are starting to back this choice, mainly because his attacking style of play resonates with the club’s identity. It seems like a strong option as the management aims to establish stability following a tough home run. Many feel that Askou’s approach brings the fresh energy needed to revive a squad that had become stagnant under the previous regime.
