Manchester United and Chelsea have a history of significant transfers between them, involving several notable players over the years.

This summer, their transfer dealings continued.

United sold Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea for around £40 million.

In the opposite direction, Mason Mount moved to Manchester United from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, with the deal valued at approximately £55 million.

Mount’s start at Old Trafford has been affected by injuries, but he recently rejoined the matchday squad for the game against Aston Villa after being sidelined.

New updates have surfaced regarding Chelsea’s past transfer activities, stemming from an official investigation into financial reporting during their previous ownership.

According to the Premier League‘s official site, Chelsea has been fined £10 million due to undisclosed payments made between 2011 and 2018 under Roman Abramovich’s ownership.

The Premier League revealed that over £47.5 million in payments were linked to third-party entities associated with Abramovich in connection with various player transfers.

These payments were not accurately recorded in the club’s financial statements at that time.

One of the notable transfers during this period was midfielder Nemanja Matic, who moved to Chelsea from Benfica in 2014 and later joined Manchester United in 2017.

At United, the Serbian played more than 180 matches and was a key player in the midfield under manager Jose Mourinho.

Other significant Chelsea signings during that time included Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto’o, and David Luiz.

Hazard’s transfer from Lille to Chelsea in 2012 was highly publicized.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City had been interested in signing the Belgian before he ultimately chose Chelsea after their UEFA Champions League victory that year.

The Premier League confirmed that Chelsea has accepted the punishment, which involves the £10 million fine and a suspended transfer ban for the men’s team.

Authorities noted that Chelsea’s current ownership fully cooperated with the investigation by identifying and reporting the payments to the league during the ownership transition in 2022.

This case marks one of the most significant financial penalties issued by the Premier League related to historic transfer transactions.
