Substitute Tom Barlow scored in the 80th minute, and Kevin Denkey added another during stoppage time as 10-man FC Cincinnati came back to win 4-3 against CF Montreal on Sunday.

Barlow netted his first goal for Cincinnati just three minutes after coming on, shortly after Miles Robinson was sent off.

Denkey, scoring his second goal of the season, capped off the comeback less than three days after Cincinnati’s 5-1 loss to Tigres UANL in Mexico City, where they were eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup on a 5-4 aggregate.

Ender Echenique opened Cincinnati’s scoring and assisted Ayoub Jabbari’s goal.

Montreal’s Prince Owusu scored twice, including one penalty, and also provided an assist. Despite being a man up, Montreal struggled, having been outscored 4-1 when playing 11 against 10.

The late goals from Cincinnati were due to mistakes from Montreal defenders.

First, Barlow took advantage when Samuel Piette lost the ball, scoring with a low shot past goalkeeper Thomas Gillier.

Then, on a long throw-in, a Montreal defender’s header went awkwardly toward the back post, allowing Denkey to score easily and celebrate a crucial goal for Cincinnati’s season.

Robinson was red-carded in the 60th minute for pulling down Owusu as he was attempting to reach a rebound, denying him a clear scoring chance.

Owusu converted the resulting penalty kick, placing it just inside the right post after making the goalkeeper dive the wrong way.

Carmona’s long-range shot opened the scoring early on, but Echinique equalized in the 40th minute. Owusu then put Montreal back ahead just before halftime, and Jabbari leveled the match in the 52nd minute.
