Zinedine Zidane will become the head coach of the French national soccer team after the FIFA World Cup this summer, according to ESPN.

The 53-year-old Zidane has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the French Football Federation to succeed Didier Deschamps, who has been in the role since 2012.

Zidane is well-known for managing Real Madrid in two terms (2016-18, 2019-21) and has been expected to take on the French team leadership for some time.

As a former player, Zidane won the 1998 Ballon d’Or and was named FIFA World Player of the Year three times (1998, 2000, and 2003). He played a key role in France’s World Cup victory in 1998 and their runner-up finish in 2006. His career included a notable incident in the 2006 final when he was sent off for headbutting Marco Materazzi of Italy.
