Happy 40th birthday to Kyle Lowry, a six-time NBA All-Star, 2015-16 third-team All-NBA selection, and 2018-19 NBA champion with the Toronto Raptors!
Born in Philadelphia, Lowry played college basketball at Villanova before being picked 24th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets, before joining Toronto in July 2012.
Lowry’s time in Toronto marked his peak. Over nine years with the Raptors, he became known as “Mr. Raptor,” averaging 17.5 points, 7.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game across 601 games. He was named an All-Star every season from 2014 to 2020 and won his only NBA championship there alongside Kawhi Leonard.
After his stint with Toronto, Lowry played 155 games for the Miami Heat from 2021 to 2024, was traded to Charlotte, and eventually joined the 76ers. In his 20th season, he has seen limited action, playing in 12 games with an average of 1.2 points in nine minutes.
Currently, as Lowry prepares to take the court for the 76ers, he will become the 32nd player over the age of 40 to participate in an NBA game since the Shot Clock Era began in 1954-55. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
