Zavier Gozo contributed with a goal and an assist on Saturday, leading Real Salt Lake to a 3-1 win against Sporting Kansas City.
Diego Luna and Sergi Solans also scored for Salt Lake (4-1-1, 13 points), which is now unbeaten in five matches. Noel Caliskan provided two assists, and Salt Lake improved to 3-0 on home turf. Salt Lake took 22 shots, while Kansas City managed only five.
Dejan Joveljic netted his fourth goal of the season for Kansas City (1-4-1, 4 points), which remains at the bottom of the Western Conference. SKC goalkeeper John Pulskamp made four saves but conceded three goals, leaving his team with the worst goal differential in the conference at minus-8.
Salt Lake took a 1-0 lead early in the game and extended that advantage to 2-0 in the 55th minute when Gozo assisted Solans, who scored from close range. Kansas City responded quickly, with Joveljic scoring four minutes later, assisted by Justin Reynolds.
After a near equalizer from Manu Garcia, Salt Lake regained a two-goal lead in the 82nd minute when Gozo scored, assisted again by Caliskan.
Salt Lake opened the scoring just four minutes into the match, with Caliskan setting up Luna, who hit a left-footed shot past Pulskamp from the edge of the box.
Throughout the first half, Salt Lake dominated possession, taking nine shots in the first 25 minutes alone.
Overall, Real Salt Lake recorded 12 shots in the first half compared to Kansas City’s two, with Pulskamp making three saves during that period.
