Nick Pope, a former U.K. Ministry of Defence official and UFO researcher known for his appearances on the History Channel’s Ancient Aliens, has passed away after battling cancer at the age of 60.

Pope’s career in government involved investigating unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), which led him to a successful second career as a UFO expert on various television shows, films, and video games. He humorously referred to himself as “the real Fox Mulder.”

He was especially well-known for his recurring role on the History Channel series Ancient Aliens, where discussions ranged from ancient civilizations to extraterrestrial encounters and popular conspiracy theories.

In a post on February 12, Pope praised his wife, describing her as “a real-life Agent Scully: a scientist, a skeptic, and a redhead.” They met by chance in the lobby bar of the Fairmont Hotel in San José in October 2010 and married three months later.

Pope expressed gratitude to his supporters but hesitated to call them “fans,” stating he didn’t see himself as a celebrity. He acknowledged his role as a public figure and appreciated those who followed his work on UAP.

He thanked everyone for their support and wished them success in their own journeys. He ended with a message of gratitude for his experiences, focusing on the remarkable moments rather than what he would miss.
