Maren Haile-Selassie scored his first goal of the season in the 13th minute, leading the Chicago Fire to a 1-0 victory over Atlanta United on Saturday night.

Assists came from Philip Zinckernagel and Jonathan Bamba, helping Chicago (4-2-1, 13 points) secure its third win in a row and improve to 3-1-0 at Soldier Field.

Atlanta United (1-5-1, 4 points) has now lost two games in a row and is 0-3-0 away this season.

The goal was set up when Zinckernagel advanced down the right, entered the box, and passed to Bamba. Bamba then found Haile-Selassie, who shot past goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos.

Immediately after the kickoff, Atlanta nearly equalized, but Tomas Jacob’s shot hit the post.

Chicago had a chance to extend the lead later in the half. Andrew Gutman hit the post in the 39th minute, and Bamba’s shot hit the crossbar a minute later.

Haile-Selassie thought he had scored again in the 74th minute, but was ruled offside.

The first-half goal turned out to be the match’s only score, marking a second straight 1-0 result for the Fire, who have conceded just five goals in 2026.

Chris Brady recorded four saves, earning his fourth clean sheet of the season, while Hoyos made two saves for Atlanta.

Atlanta has now lost six regular-season matches away from home and has a record of 1-14-5 in their last 20 matches on the road. The team’s winless streak in Chicago is now eight matches (0-5-3).

Atlanta United’s head coach Tata Martino was serving a one-match suspension after receiving a red card during a match against the Columbus Crew on April 4.

Alexey Miranchuk, Atlanta’s top scorer with four goals, missed the game due to a muscle injury.
