Kosi Thompson scored two goals in his debut for Colorado on Saturday night, helping the Rapids secure a 6-2 win against the Houston Dynamo in Commerce City, Colorado.
Thompson, who joined the Rapids from Toronto FC on March 26, made an immediate impact by scoring his first goals of the season. Rafael Navarro also scored twice, while Josh Atencio added another for the Rapids (4-3-0, 12 points), who are now undefeated at home with a record of 3-0-0.
Lawrence Ennali scored the only goal for Houston before stoppage time in the second half. The Dynamo (2-4-0, 6 points) have now lost three straight matches after starting the season with two wins in three games.
Colorado opened the scoring early, just five minutes in, when Thompson found the net on his first run with the team. Dante Sealy delivered a cross into the box, which Thompson converted for his first goal since 2023.
The lead doubled in the 17th minute when Thompson stole the ball in Houston’s half, leading to Atencio’s first goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Zack Steffen made three of his six saves in the first half, helping to maintain Colorado’s two-goal advantage at halftime.
Thompson extended the lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute, scoring again after collecting a deflection from Houston’s Diadie Samassekou.
Ennali managed to score for the Dynamo in the 69th minute, assisted by Guilherme Santos.
Colorados responded quickly, with Navarro scoring his team-leading fourth goal just four minutes later. The lead increased to four in stoppage time when Felipe Andrade scored an own goal, making it 5-1.
Santos scored again for Houston two minutes later, but Colorado’s offensive efforts continued. After a foul on Hector Herrera, Navarro sealed the match with a penalty kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
