Javier Mascherano has stepped down as head coach of Inter Miami unexpectedly, despite recent success with the team.
The Argentine coach led the club to its first MLS Cup in December 2025, a milestone in Inter Miami’s history.
His resignation, announced this Tuesday, took many by surprise, especially given his strong ties with Lionel Messi and the positive momentum following their championship victory.

Mascherano confirmed his resignation in an official statement, citing personal reasons for his departure.
“I want to inform everyone that, for personal reasons, I have chosen to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF,” he stated.
The former midfielder expressed his gratitude to the club and everyone involved during his time there.
“I want to thank the Club for their trust in me, all the employees for their hard work, and especially the players for allowing us to share unforgettable moments together.
“I also appreciate the fans and La Familia, as this success would not have been possible without them. I will always remember our first star, and I wish the Club continued success in the future.”
The statement offered little clarity, leaving the reasons for his departure somewhat ambiguous.
