Lionel Messi and the Argentinian Football Association (AFA) are facing a lawsuit for alleged fraud and breach of contract. They were scheduled to play two exhibition matches in October, where Messi was expected to play at least 30 minutes in each game. However, he ended up watching from the stands, leading to the lawsuit.
VID, a Miami-based company that organizes large-scale music and sports events, filed the lawsuit against Messi and the AFA in South Florida. They claim they lost millions of dollars due to the situation. In August, VID reportedly agreed to pay the AFA $7 million for exclusive rights to two matches: Argentina vs. Venezuela and Argentina vs. Puerto Rico.
TMZ reached out to Messi’s team and the AFA for comments, but no response was received at the time of the report.
Argentina triumphed in both friendlies, winning 1-0 against Venezuela with a goal from Giovani Lo Celso, and they scored six goals against Puerto Rico after a venue change from Chicago to Miami.
Argentina to Play Pre-World Cup Matches at Auburn, Texas A&M
With the World Cup approaching, Argentina enters as the defending champions. They will play two pre-tournament matches at SEC football stadiums, hosted by Auburn and Texas A&M.
There are questions about Messi’s involvement in these matches. Officials from both universities are hopeful he will participate, providing fans with a special experience.
Trev Alberts, the athletics director at Texas A&M, expressed optimism about Messi’s appearance, saying, “I don’t want to make any promises, but we do anticipate him being a part, yes.” Although details are not confirmed, he mentioned that it is expected Messi will contribute in some capacity as the team prepares for the big event in 2026.
