Manchester United‘s previous attempt to sign Angelo Stiller has come to light as the club readies for significant changes in their midfield this summer.
According to CF Bayern Insider, United was interested in Stiller last summer but missed the chance to finalize the deal as they arrived late in negotiations.
The report indicates that Manchester United sees the midfielder as a key target for this upcoming transfer window.
Manchester United’s Midfield Changes
Casemiro’s expected exit from the club at the season’s end has triggered plans for a midfield reshuffle as United seeks to strengthen its lineup.
Last summer primarily focused on enhancing the attack and defense, bringing in players like Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko for attacking roles. Senne Lammens was also signed for the goalkeeping position.
Casemiro is set to join Inter Miami this summer after agreeing to terms, while Manchester United has shown interest in Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali.
Interest in Tonali surfaced in early February, with CentreDevils revealing discussions between United and the midfielder’s agents in March.
Newcastle United is asking for around £100 million for the Italian international, who is also a target for Real Madrid, complicating his potential transfer.
Similarly, United is looking at Elliot Anderson, although Nottingham Forest is wanting close to the Premier League record of £116 million for the English player.
Stiller could be a more affordable alternative, as CF Bayern Insider reports Stuttgart may consider selling him for £43.5 million.
Angelo Stiller’s Season Performance
This season, Stiller has played 45 matches, scoring two goals and providing eight assists, primarily in the Bundesliga.
Specifically, he boasts a pass accuracy of 88.2% and has created 48 opportunities, contributing significantly to Stuttgart’s campaign.
Additionally, he has completed 38 tackles and made 110 defensive contributions, supporting the team in various ways.
When compared to Casemiro, Stiller shows a higher pass accuracy (88.2% vs. 80.9%) and created more chances (48 vs. 32), suggesting that signing him could benefit Manchester United.
His lower cost, proven quality, and age (25) make him an attractive option for the Red Devils. Now the focus will be on whether the club decides to pursue this potential signing.
