Cristian Roldan scored two goals, and Albert Rusnak added one goal and two assists as the Seattle Sounders defeated St. Louis City 4-1 on Saturday night.
Osaze De Rosario also found the net, while goalkeeper Andrew Thomas made two saves for Seattle (5-1-1, 16 points). This was the Sounders’ first home league match since the season opener on February 22. They had played five consecutive away games while waiting for a natural grass surface to be installed at Lumen Field for upcoming FIFA World Cup matches this summer.
Roldan, the team captain, scored in the 22nd and 37th minutes, both from corner kicks by Rusnak on the left. For the first goal, Rusnak assisted Roldan just beyond the far post, allowing him to head the ball into the side netting. The second goal was a volley from near the top of the 6-yard box that bounced off the turf and past diving goalkeeper Roman Burki into the net.
Rusnak increased the lead to 3-0 with a penalty kick in the 49th minute, driving the ball into the lower left corner as Burki dove the opposite direction. The penalty was given by referee Chris Penso after St. Louis’ Conrad Wallem tripped Paul Rothrock in the box.
De Rosario, who came on as a substitute in the 80th minute, scored Seattle’s final goal six minutes later. He received a pass from Jesus Ferreira just inside the penalty area, navigated through four defenders, and shot from 15 yards into the lower left corner.
St. Louis substitute Eduard Lowen scored in the second minute of stoppage time, ending Thomas’ shutout attempt. After a blocked shot, Lowen shot from 15 yards into the upper right corner, leaving Thomas with no chance to save.
Burki made five saves for St. Louis (1-4-3, 6 points), which had a three-match unbeaten run snapped.
Seattle completed a season series sweep against St. Louis, having previously won 1-0 on March 7 in St. Louis.
The Sounders now hold a 7-1-0 record against St. Louis since the team joined the league in 2023.
