The list of candidates to replace Arne Slot as head coach of Liverpool is growing. Among those speculated is legendary striker Fernando Torres, who could potentially return to Anfield in a managerial role.
According to The Mirror, the 42-year-old former Spain and Liverpool forward is seen as a future head coach for the Reds. This assertion comes from ex-Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente, who expressed confidence in Torres’s abilities to lead the team.
“Will Fernando Torres one day become Liverpool’s manager? Absolutely. He chose a different path than Cesc Fabregas, showing patience and opting to start with the youth team, gaining valuable experience along the way. I believe Fernando will become a great coach because he had an incredible playing career, he knows so much about football, and he’s clearly been preparing himself for the right moment to make the step up,” Llorente stated.
During his time at Liverpool from 2007 to 2011, Torres made 142 appearances, scoring 81 goals and providing 19 assists. Currently, he serves as the head coach of Atletico Madrid’s youth team, a position he assumed in the summer of 2024, where his team is currently in third place with 58 points after 33 rounds.
