The Saudi Arabian national football team has officially parted ways with head coach Hervé Renard, who was dismissed on Friday, April 17. Renard had previously led the team to qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

Reports from L’Équipe indicate that speculation regarding Renard’s future significantly contributed to his exit. In March, discussions occurred between Renard and the federation’s management, during which the coach expressed his desire to remain with the team. However, shortly thereafter, news emerged that the Ghanaian national team was seeking a new head coach and had shown interest in Renard.

Sources suggest that despite Renard declining an offer from the Ghanaian federation, concerns began to arise among the Saudi leadership. The atmosphere within the federation reportedly turned tense, with some officials favoring a change in coaching personnel.

Renard’s tenure with the Saudi national team spanned two terms: from July 2019 to March 2023, and he was reappointed in October 2024. During his time, he successfully guided the team to qualify for the upcoming World Cup.
