Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are still waiting for their first win in their new home.
Germán Berterame scored off a rebound in the 76th minute, resulting in a 1-1 tie with the New England Revolution on Saturday night. This outcome keeps the defending MLS Cup champions winless in their three matches at the new Miami stadium.
The Herons are 0-0-3 at home, a stark contrast to their 5-1-1 record in MLS road matches this season. Inter Miami remains unbeaten in its last nine MLS matches, showing a record of 5-0-4 after a season-opening loss to LAFC. They are also unbeaten in their last 11 matches across all competitions, holding a 5-0-6 record.
Former MLS MVP Carles Gil scored in the 56th minute for New England, who had previously lost each of their last four matchups against Inter Miami. Gil’s goal was set up by Will Sands’ long throw-in into the box, which was settled by Dor Turgeman, allowing the charging Gil to chip the ball past Inter Miami goalie Dayne St. Clair to open the scoring.
This goal came just moments after Inter Miami thought they had gone ahead, only for Tadeo Allende’s right-footed blast to be disallowed due to an offside call.
About 20 minutes later, Inter Miami equalized when Luis Suárez spun and attempted a shot from near the goal mouth. New England goalkeeper Matt Turner saved the low roller, but the ball deflected off his hand and fell right to Berterame, who scored effortlessly to level the match at 1-1.

Until that moment, the Revolution appeared poised to secure their first win in the series since June 10, 2023, shortly after Messi’s announcement about joining MLS and Inter Miami. Messi would not actually start playing for Inter Miami for several more weeks.
In the four matches since that 2023 contest, Inter Miami has outscored New England 16-5, winning all four emphatically.
Messi recorded a few promising chances, including one in the 38th minute when he chased down a ball flicked into the box with two defenders on his tail. However, he stumbled slightly while attempting to position the ball to his left foot and sent a weak shot wide, looking up in disbelief after the play.
He attempted a corner kick into the net midway through the first half and had another chance from about 12 yards during first-half stoppage time, both of which were easily handled by Turner. The match went to the break tied 0-0.
Inter Miami has five matches left before MLS enters a seven-week stoppage for the FIFA World Cup. None of their upcoming opponents—Orlando, Toronto, Cincinnati, Portland, and Philadelphia—currently have a winning record, with Toronto at a .500 record (3-3-4) and the others sitting no higher than 12th in their conference standings.
