Manchester United Faces Departures as Key Player Leah Galton Set to Leave
Manchester United is navigating a significant transition period, with long-standing players departing as the club prepares for its next competitive cycle.
This evolution has been evident across various departments at Old Trafford in recent seasons, focusing on refreshing the squad while maintaining continuity with key figures within the organization.
A notable departure is in the works, with Casemiro confirming his exit from the club.
Change is also affecting the women’s team, which has progressively built on its early foundations since turning professional, evolving into one of the more established teams in English football.
Leah Galton, one of the foundational players, will officially leave Manchester United Women this summer when her contract expires, marking the end of her eight-year tenure at the club, as announced on their website.
Galton joined in 2018 as part of United Women’s inaugural professional squad and quickly became a key attacking figure as the team began its ascent through the English football structure.
She played an essential role in their title win in the second tier during the 2018/19 season and went on to establish herself as one of the most reliable forwards as the team transitioned into the Women’s Super League.
Over her time at the club, she became a record-holder, finishing as United Women’s all-time top scorer in the WSL with 35 goals.
Her influence was particularly notable during the 2022/23 season, where she reached double figures in league goals and assisted United in achieving their highest-ever finish and points total in the WSL.
Galton also contributed to a historic milestone for the club, being part of the squad that secured their first major trophy in the Women’s FA Cup, famously playing through a fractured tibia during the final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Recently, she was a member of the team that participated in United’s inaugural UEFA Women’s Champions League league-phase campaign, adding European experience to her impressive achievements.
However, her final season has been marred by injury, with a persistent back issue limiting her to just four appearances in 2026 and preventing her from completing a full match so far.
She had aimed for an earlier return this year but faced setbacks delaying her comeback.
As she prepares to conclude this chapter, Galton leaves behind a significant legacy as one of the players who helped shape Manchester United Women from its inception.
