Esteban Andrada Receives 12-Match Suspension for Punching Opponent in Spanish Football Match

  • Esteban Andrada punched Jorge Pulido in second-division Spanish football match

  • Pulido dropped to the ground, brawl between players and staff members from both teams ensued

  • Andrada later apologized for his actions, but handed 12-match suspension

Zaragoza’s Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada has been handed a 12-match suspension for punching an opponent during a second-division soccer game in Spain this weekend.

In addition, Andrada received a one-match suspension for a red card he was shown prior to the punch.

The incident occurred in the final minutes of the game when Andrada shoved Huesca defender Jorge Pulido after he approached the goalkeeper. The referee subsequently issued a second yellow card to Andrada for the shove, prompting him to chase Pulido and strike him in the face with a powerful right-hand punch.

Pulido fell to the ground, leading to a brawl involving players and staff from both teams. Andrada later expressed his regret over the incident.

Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez also faced repercussions, receiving a red card for punching Andrada amid the skirmish. Jimenez earned a four-match suspension for his actions.

The suspensions are subject to appeal.

Rayo Player Suspended

Rayo Vallecano player Isi Palazón has been suspended for a total of seven matches following strong complaints directed at the referee during his team’s 3-3 draw against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Palazón, who had already been substituted, was dismissed for his protests from the bench late in the game.

A goal by Rayo was disallowed after a video review, which instead awarded a penalty kick to Sociedad for an earlier incident in the buildup.
