Marcus Rashford has been in fine form this season, excelling while on loan with Barcelona, hoping to secure a permanent move to Camp Nou.

In 45 games, the 28-year-old has scored 13 goals and grabbed 13 assists, helping Barca to first place in LaLiga, defending their crown.

However, back in September 2025, the Manchester United attacker suffered racial abuse as the Catalan side took on Real Oviedo.

In the 88th minute, Marcus Rashford stepped up to take a corner, whipping it in to link up with Ronald Araujo who sealed the 3-1 victory.

Unfortunately while doing so, a 19-year-old Real Oviedo fan hurled racial abuse at the England international, with his trial having taken place today.

Real Oviedo Fan Receives Nine-Month Sentence for Racial Abuse of Marcus Rashford

Mundo Deportivo has reported that the unnamed Oviedo fan was issued his sentence at the Provincial Court of Oviedo, being convicted of “injuring the dignity of persons for racist reasons.”

The defendant reportedly accepted a plea-bargain agreement for the crime, resulting in a nine-month prison sentence along with a six-month daily fine of €5, which totals €900.

If the fine is unpaid, the Oviedo fan faces additional jail time and must pay an extra €2000 to Marcus Rashford for moral damages.

Alongside the imprisonment and fines, the fan will not be allowed to engage in any education, sports, or leisure profession for three years and nine months; he must also complete a program addressing hate and discrimination.

Furthermore, the 19-year-old will face a three-year ban from all football stadiums, which extends beyond LaLiga to include any FIFA or UEFA competitions.

This verdict marks the eleventh sentence handed down for similar offenses, as LaLiga continues its efforts to combat racism in football.
