Celtic Faces Disappointment After Failed Bid for Defender Oskar Wojcik
The January transfer window has been notably quiet for Celtic, particularly in terms of permanent signings.
While the club secured several loan deals—including Julian Araujo (AFC Bournemouth), Tomas Cvancara (Borussia Monchengladbach), Junior Adamu (Freiburg), Benjamin Arthur (Brentford), and Joel Mvuka (Lorient)—only free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was brought in on a permanent basis.
Reports from Polish journalist Piotr Kozminski reveal that Celtic attempted to secure a £3.5m deal for Cracovia central defender Oskar Wojcik during the transfer window, but the move did not materialize.
Kozminski notes that Wojcik is now attracting interest from clubs in both the Premier League and Serie A.
Given the growing interest from these competitive leagues, Celtic may have missed an opportunity to sign a promising player. It appears that the board was negotiating over the transfer fee and opted not to commit, potentially passing on a player whose value could increase significantly in the future.
Despite solid performances from Liam Scales and Aaron Trusty, adding depth to the squad with a player as potential-laden as Wojcik could have provided valuable support as the season progresses.
