Tottenham Faces Aston Villa in Key Premier League Matchup

The fight for Premier League survival intensifies as Tottenham Hotspur travels to Villa Park to confront Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

Spurs secured their first league victory of 2026 by edging out Wolves 1-0 last weekend, thanks to an 82nd-minute goal from Joao Palhinha. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky made a remarkable stoppage-time save from Joao Gomes’ free-kick, leading to jubilant celebrations from the away supporters at Molineux. This win marked the inaugural triumph of the Roberto De Zerbi era, boosting the team’s morale and confidence.

However, Tottenham has suffered significant injury setbacks following the Wolves match. Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons are both set to miss the remainder of the season due to injuries. Solanke fell off the ball and was treated on the pitch, leaving the game in the 40th minute to be replaced by Richarlison. Recent reports indicate that Solanke has sustained a grade-2 hamstring injury.

Simons has revealed that he has ruptured his ACL, which will keep him out not only of Tottenham’s remaining fixtures but also the World Cup this summer, with a recovery timeline set for 2027.

Roberto De Zerbi Provides Injury Updates Ahead of Aston Villa Clash

During a recent press conference, De Zerbi addressed inquiries about Solanke’s status, stating, “I don’t know yet. Villa no.” He also noted that goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario will remain sidelined, although Destiny Udogie may return after missing the Wolves match due to a minor injury.

“He is not available,” De Zerbi stated regarding Vicario. “Udogie can be available. I don’t know the beginning of the game or the second half.”

The injury list for Tottenham has grown since De Zerbi took the helm in March, losing Cristian Romero, Mohammed Kudus, and Simons for the season, while Solanke is unlikely to return soon due to muscle issues. De Zerbi will need to utilize the resources available to him in order to secure a win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Tottenham has already faced Aston Villa twice this season, losing both the Premier League and FA Cup encounters. The team is eager to turn their fortunes around and achieve a victory in the Midlands for the second weekend running, making it a pivotal match for De Zerbi as he prepares to face Unai Emery’s side.
