Fabrizio Romano Discusses Joshua Zirkzee’s Prospects at Manchester United

Despite numerous exit reports, Fabrizio Romano reveals why Joshua Zirkzee might still have a future at Manchester United.

Following his exploits at Bologna, the Dutchman joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2024 on a deal worth £36.5 million.

However, the 24-year-old has been enduring challenging times and has become somewhat lost in the shuffle amidst the managerial changes.

Joshua Zirkzee Still Willing to Extend His Time at Man Utd

Zirkzee originally arrived under the guidance of his compatriot Erik ten Hag, but the latter was sacked a few months later. Ruben Amorim wasn’t always convinced by the former Bayern Munich striker but relied on him last season, often preferring him over Rasmus Hojlund.

This term, Zirkzee has been relegated to the bench following the additions of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, leading to a lack of playing time. Michael Carrick’s appointment further reduced his chances, with four attackers (the three new signings plus Amad Diallo) competing for three starting roles.

As a result, most sources in England and Italy are expecting Zirkzee to leave Man Utd in the summer, as several top Serie A clubs have expressed interest in the player.

However, during his appearance on the Here We Go podcast, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano emphasized that Zirkzee’s departure is not a certainty just yet.

Romano stated that Zirkzee ‘loves’ being at Manchester United and remains determined to succeed at the club.

The Netherlands international is clearly not satisfied with his current playing time. However, as Romano points out, his situation could improve next season with the anticipated return to the Champions League and potential longer domestic cup runs.

Thus, the player is expected to discuss his future with Carrick, and if the latter is confirmed as head coach and offers assurances regarding his role for next season, Zirkzee might reconsider a summer exit.
