Sir Alex Ferguson Hospitalized Before Manchester United vs. Liverpool Match

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to the hospital from Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after feeling unwell ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

The 84-year-old has been taken into medical care as a precaution, but it’s expected that he will soon be recuperating at home, according to the Daily Mail.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who spent 26 years in charge at Old Trafford between 1986 and 2013 and won 38 trophies at Manchester United, was taken to the hospital more than an hour before kick-off in United’s game against Liverpool.

In May 2018, Ferguson underwent life-saving surgery after suffering a sudden brain hemorrhage, and he has since returned to regularly watching his beloved United. There is nothing to suggest that this latest incident involving the Manchester United legend is related to this past scare.

Despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s continued support of Manchester United, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe axed his paid ambassadorial role at the club in 2024, as the British billionaire looked for ways to cut costs.

The INEOS owner said in 2024 that Manchester United were unwilling to pay the £2.61 million per year that the Scottish manager had received as a salary since his retirement from management in 2013.

It has not stopped the 84-year-old’s involvement in the club. The Scotsman spoke to Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox at Carrington in January over coffee following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, and continues to be influential.

In his time at Old Trafford, Sir Alex won 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League titles, securing himself the status as one of the club’s greatest figures of all time.

Everybody in the footballing world will be keeping their fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for Manchester United’s legendary ex-manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
