Manchester United Evaluates Toby Collyer’s Future Amid Injury Struggles

The pathway from academy football into senior contention remains a focus at Manchester United, particularly as the club prepares for a summer where several long-term development decisions will be made.

Across the system, young players are being tested in demanding environments.

For one midfielder, however, the season has been defined by setbacks.

Toby Collyer has endured a disrupted campaign during spells away from Old Trafford, where injuries have repeatedly halted his momentum.

He initially joined West Bromwich Albion at the start of the season but was restricted to just 12 Championship appearances after a calf issue cut his involvement short.

A January move to Hull City was intended as a fresh loan opportunity to rebuild his rhythm, but another setback followed when a training-ground collision resulted in a twisted ankle that ended his season early.

Hull City Have Contacted Manchester United for Toby Collyer

According to The Athletic, Hull have since contacted United with an interest in bringing him back on loan next season, but United are taking a more measured approach as they prepare to reassess their midfield options.

The club want to evaluate Toby Collyer in pre-season before deciding whether another loan is the best route or if he should remain in-house for closer development.

Hull’s potential promotion via the Championship play-offs could also influence discussions depending on the level they are able to offer next season.

Collyer has been part of United’s academy pathway in recent years, steadily progressing through youth and development levels as he adapted to senior football demands.

However, injuries have repeatedly disrupted his progress, preventing him from establishing consistency in competitive football.

His latest setback, a twisted ankle sustained in training, was confirmed last month and ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Now, with the summer approaching, United face an important decision on whether to continue his development or bring him closer to Carrington for closer evaluation.
