Tottenham Aims to Strengthen Defense Ahead of New Season

Tottenham Hotspur is actively seeking a significant squad overhaul this summer as they prepare to compete for a higher position in the Premier League under manager Roberto de Zerbi.

The Italian coach is dedicated to ensuring the club remains in top-flight football. Failure to secure their position could lead to the departure of several key players. Staying in the Premier League will provide Tottenham a solid opportunity to attract players who align with De Zerbi’s tactical approach.

Club officials have begun formulating plans for the summer transfer window, focusing primarily on defensive reinforcements. Tottenham has been linked with AS Roma full-back Wesley Franca in anticipation of the upcoming transfer period.

Franca has made a strong impact in his debut season in Rome after moving from Flamengo in 2025. The Brazilian full-back has emerged as one of Serie A’s most consistent players, scoring five goals and providing two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. He has also earned a spot in the national squad under coach Carlo Ancelotti.

AS Roma Resists Offers for Wesley Franca

Wesley Franca’s performances have attracted the interest of multiple clubs across Europe; however, AS Roma is determined to keep him after just one season.

A report from Calciomercato indicates that Franca’s market value has already more than doubled compared to what AS Roma invested last summer. The club plans to resist any offers unless a very substantial bid materializes. While there are many interested parties, no formal offers have been made yet.

The 22-year-old began the season as a right wing-back but has also successfully adapted to the left wing-back position under Gian Piero Gasperini. He has proven to be an effective addition to Gasperini’s system, offering width, pace, creativity, and goals from wide areas.

Although Franca has areas to improve, Tottenham may view him as a long-term replacement for Pedro Porro, who is on the radar of Atletico Madrid. Nevertheless, with Roma’s firm stance on substantial offers, Tottenham may need to exceed their budget to secure the versatile full-back.
