Manchester United Prepares for Next Season as Women’s Team Misses European Qualification
Manchester United is currently preparing for the upcoming season, with a focus on securing qualification for the Champions League, which is deemed crucial for the club.
While the men’s team will participate in the Premier League, EFL Cup, and FA Cup—where all teams in England’s top four divisions are guaranteed spots in the latter two competitions—the opportunity for European play is not guaranteed and is reserved for those who finish at the top of the table the prior season.
Manchester United’s men’s team will compete in next season’s Champions League, having shown a remarkable turnaround in the second half of the season under Michael Carrick’s leadership.
In contrast, the women’s team has missed out on qualification for Europe’s premier club competition next season due to their current league standing. Marc Skinner’s side is sitting fourth in the Women’s Super League, and poor recent form has negatively impacted their position.
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City will be the three clubs representing the league in next season’s Women’s Champions League, which kicks off later this year. Despite Manchester United reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament in the 2025-26 season and overcoming teams like Atletico Madrid, they will not have the opportunity to replicate that success next season.
Marc Skinner’s future with the club now appears uncertain, as the absence of silverware this season places added pressure on him. CentreDevils exclusively reported that Champions League qualification was deemed a key goal for the club this season, with Skinner already under evaluation. It is unclear whether the club will make changes, but the failure to secure Champions League qualification is expected to disappoint supporters and hinder the team from achieving a significant objective.
