David de Gea Prefers to Stay at Fiorentina Amid Manchester United Rumours

David de Gea left a large void when he departed Manchester United in the summer of 2023.

The former Spanish international, who joined the Red Devils in 2011, made 545 appearances for the club across his 12-year stay at Old Trafford.

De Gea also gained vast amounts of experience and won several trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Europa League.

After leaving Manchester United, the now 35-year-old spent a year away from the game before joining Fiorentina on a free agent transfer.

At the Italian club, he has established himself as a starter, making 87 appearances across nearly two years at the side.

However, with the summer transfer window approaching, speculation surrounding the goalkeeper’s future persists, with Manchester United frequently mentioned in discussions.

Now, journalist Niccolò Ceccarini has reported that de Gea aims to remain at Fiorentina this summer, stating that only an offer from Manchester United could change his mind.

Senne Lammens currently occupies the number one position at Manchester United, having been named the Red Devils’ signing of the season and has featured in goal for the majority of the season.

While the prospect of signing David de Gea may excite many Manchester United fans, his necessity must also be considered.

If Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir were to leave Old Trafford, a spot may open, although Radek Vitek, who was recently named Player of the Year at Bristol City, may seek to claim the second-choice position.

In the meantime, de Gea will continue to focus on his games at Fiorentina.

According to Ceccarini, the goalkeeper’s intentions are to stay at the Italian club, and with Manchester United likely to focus on other positions this summer, an offer from Old Trafford may never materialize in the window.
