Dimitar Berbatov Set to Make Football Comeback in Charity Match Against England

Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov will return to football this month, participating in a match against England in London.

The ex-footballer and Bulgarian legend’s inclusion in the match has been confirmed, generating excitement online.

In an official post on their Instagram page, Soccer Aid for UNICEF announced: ‘A touch of class for the World XI. Dimitar Berbatov returns to Soccer Aid for UNICEF. Sunday 31 May, London Stadium.’

This isn’t Berbatov’s first appearance in the popular charity event, as he has played in Soccer Aid twice before, in 2016 and 2022.

During the 2022 match, Berbatov adopted a deeper role, demonstrating leadership from centre-back while completing 37 of his 38 passes, according to FotMob. Although his pace may have diminished, Berbatov continues to excel at reading the game.

He will reunite on the pitch with former teammate Wayne Rooney, who is confirmed to captain the England side, as announced earlier in March.

Over four seasons at Manchester United from 2008 to 2012, Berbatov scored 56 goals in 149 appearances, a notable record that includes 27 assists. He contributed to The Red Devils’ achievements in winning the FIFA Club World Cup, two League Cups, and two Community Shields.

After leaving Old Trafford in 2012 for Fulham, Berbatov had brief spells with Monaco, PAOK, and Kerala Blasters in India before retiring in 2018.

Berbatov has engaged in numerous charitable efforts, and the upcoming match on May 31 promises to be a memorable occasion for Manchester United fans looking to watch the ex-footballer grace English football again, this time in Soccer Aid.
