Spurs Eye Survival as Relegation Battle Intensifies

As of this morning, Burnley and Wolves are already relegated from the Premier League. The focus now shifts to West Ham, with Nottingham Forest and other teams above the relegation zone appearing to be safer. Spurs’ relegation probability has decreased to around 20% after recent improvements, a significant drop from previous weeks when it stood at nearly 40%.

Remaining Fixtures

May 11: vs Leeds United (H)
May 19: at Chelsea (A)
May 24: vs Everton (H)

A victory against Leeds today would be crucial, potentially bringing Spurs to 40 points and providing much-needed breathing room. Even a draw would be beneficial.

Results against Chelsea and Everton will be critical for Spurs’ survival. One win and a couple of draws may be enough, considering West Ham’s tougher schedule and poorer goal difference. Back-to-back wins over Wolves (1-0) and Aston Villa (2-1), coupled with West Ham’s loss to Brentford, have lifted Spurs out of the bottom three.

Roberto De Zerbi’s influence has contributed to stabilizing the team, easing some fans’ worries. Key elements for Spurs include strong home performances. Achieving positive results at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Leeds and Everton is essential, while goal difference remains a significant factor. Spurs currently sit at -9, with West Ham at a troubling -19, potentially serving as a tiebreaker if points end up level.

Spurs have taken full advantage of the points dropped by West Ham. However, it’s crucial for Spurs to manage their own results. Eliminating defensive errors, maintaining clinical efficiency up front, and keeping intensity under pressure are vital. Spurs are in a much stronger position now compared to a few weeks ago, but they cannot afford any slip-ups—especially on home soil. A win or at least a draw against Leeds today would make them heavy favorites to avoid relegation. A couple of additional positive results should secure their status in the Premier League for the 2026/27 season. The financial and sporting repercussions of relegation would be severe, prompting players to give their all in these final matches.

West Ham remains in a precarious situation, not yet mathematically relegated. They need results in their final two matches while also hoping that Tottenham falters. The situation could extend to the last day of the season on May 24. A critical concern for West Ham is their goal difference; having conceded too many goals could ultimately decide their fate.
