French football club Lyon is facing potential severe sanctions from UEFA for the upcoming season. Reports from The Telegraph indicate that UEFA has concluded the club may not have adhered to the financial fair play agreement established last summer.

This breach of financial obligations could jeopardize Lyon’s ability to participate in international tournaments, irrespective of the team’s sports performance this season.

If disqualified, the vacant European spot would be allocated to another French club. The primary candidates for this opportunity are Marseille and Rennes, both of which could represent France in continental competitions instead of Lyon.
