Manchester United has joined several Premier League clubs in making discreet enquiries regarding Neco Williams’ contract situation at Nottingham Forest, reports Sami Mokbel of the BBC.

Despite being tied to the City Ground until June 2029, Nottingham Forest has initiated discussions to improve Williams’ deal amid growing interest from other clubs. Talks are currently underway to secure their key starter.

Aston Villa, Everton, and Newcastle United are also among the clubs assessing the availability of the 25-year-old full-back. For United and Everton, a move for Williams would be particularly surprising given that he spent 15 years with Liverpool at both youth and senior levels.

Williams was loaned to Fulham in 2022 and subsequently transferred to Forest for £12 million, where he has made 127 Premier League appearances to date.

As the transfer window approaches, United officials appear to be in the market for a new left-back, particularly due to concerns over Luke Shaw’s fitness. Although the 30-year-old has started every league match this season, he has faced multiple injury setbacks and was seen limping out of the Stadium of Light after last Saturday’s goalless draw against Sunderland.

Additionally, the expectation of adding Champions League football to their schedule poses a major challenge for a squad that has played their fewest matches (40) since 1915.
