Tottenham Must Secure Wins Against Chelsea and Everton to Avoid Relegation

Tottenham Hotspur is focusing on improving their performance under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi. Since taking charge in mid-March, the 46-year-old has significantly impacted the team’s fortunes, steering them away from relegation territory. Prior to his arrival, Spurs had not secured a Premier League victory in 2026 and were facing the threat of relegation.

Since De Zerbi’s appointment, Tottenham has earned eight points across five games. They are currently on a four-game unbeaten streak, including a recent 1-1 draw with Leeds United at home. Following West Ham’s loss to Arsenal last weekend, Tottenham had the opportunity to widen their gap to four points from the relegation zone, but they settled for a single point against Leeds.

Brad Friedel Shares Insights on Tottenham’s Relegation Battle

De Zerbi has successfully lifted Spurs out of the relegation zone; however, they remain just two points clear of 18th-placed West Ham. The team has two critical matches ahead if they aim to secure their position in the Premier League.

Brad Friedel has provided his perspective on Spurs’ chances of staying up. The former Spurs goalkeeper noted that the team missed a crucial opportunity against Leeds to further separate themselves from the relegation spots. He commended De Zerbi for accepting the role during a challenging period and quickly instilling confidence in the players.

“Well, big missed opportunity. The one thing I’ll say since De Zerbi came in, and he came in at a time that I think it’s difficult to get top quality managers,” Brad Friedel said on the talkSPORT show.

“He came in, and he has gotten some confidence back into the players. By no means was that a special performance. It wasn’t a silky performance, but at least they got a draw out of it. And at the very end, you saw it was Tottenham that was banging on the door instead of just holding on for dear life.

“Um, uh, it’s a shame they couldn’t hold on from the 1-0 and now going away to Chelsea. The only good news with that is that West Ham have to go away to Newcastle. So, they both have, uh, they both have tough games, but um, this is going to go right down to the final game of the season, unfortunately, for Tottenham fans.”
