Orbit College has announced that they will host Orlando Pirates at Mbombela Stadium on May 23, following safety concerns that have prevented them from utilizing their usual venue at Olympia Park.
The PSL side was unable to accommodate teams of Pirates’ stature at Olympia Park due to these safety issues. Previously, Orbit managed to play a game against Mamelodi Sundowns at Olympia Park, which allowed spectators free entry.
The upcoming match holds significant implications for the season, as it may see Orlando Pirates crowned champions of the Betway Premiership. Currently, Pirates are scheduled to face Durban City this Saturday and are hoping to level points with Mamelodi Sundowns at 68, while they sit at 65 points. Pirates also benefit from a superior goal difference.
Despite efforts to secure Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace for the match, renovations at the venue made it unavailable. However, with the confirmation of Mbombela Stadium, the setting is now established for a critical encounter that could mark the crowning of this season’s champions.
