Hull City is preparing for a potential delay to the Championship play-off final for promotion to the Premier League amid allegations surrounding their prospective opponent, Southampton.

According to TeamTalk, an independent commission is reviewing evidence that Southampton trainee Will Salt secretly filmed a closed Middlesbrough training session prior to their semi-final match. If found guilty, Southampton could face severe sporting sanctions, including possible expulsion from the crucial match at Wembley.

In light of the situation, Middlesbrough has already recalled its players from vacation, resuming training today in anticipation of a potential reinstatement in the competition. Club owner Steve Gibson has engaged top sports lawyer Nick De Marco to explore further legal actions. Additionally, Southampton has not yet commenced ticket sales for the final, indicating the gravity of the threat of disqualification.

The legal proceedings could disrupt the tournament schedule, as any decisions made by the commission may face court challenges from involved parties. This situation puts the final, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 23, at significant risk. Hull City, having reached the final after defeating Millwall, is now compelled to formulate contingency plans for an unexpected rescheduling of their pivotal match.
