FC Dallas Prevails 3-2 Against San Jose Earthquakes in Thrilling Match
Sam Sarver scored in the third minute of second-half stoppage time as FC Dallas secured a 3-2 victory over the host San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. The win marked another successful outing for FC Dallas, who improved their record to 6-4-4, accumulating 22 points this season.
Petar Musa and Patrickson Delgado also found the net for FC Dallas, while Jonathan Sirois made six crucial saves, including one from the penalty spot, in his club debut. The team has shown impressive form this month, with a record of 3-1-0 and a total of 10 goals scored during this stretch.
Head coach Eric Quill was absent due to a red card received in a previous match against the Whitecaps, leaving assistant coach Mark Briggs in charge for this game.
Reid Roberts and Beau Leroux contributed goals for the Earthquakes, who currently stand at 9-3-2 with 29 points. Despite a strong start to the season, San Jose has struggled lately, now holding a record of 0-2-2 in May while remaining tied with the Vancouver Whitecaps for the most points in MLS.
Delgado opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the match, capitalizing on a failure to clear the ball from the Earthquakes’ penalty area. He took possession near the penalty spot and netted a goal with a deflection inside the left post, marking the fifth fastest goal in club history.
The Earthquakes equalized in the 18th minute when Leroux struck a perfect shot into the top right corner from near the top of the penalty area.
San Jose had a chance to take the lead in the 42nd minute, but Leroux’s penalty kick was saved by Sirois, who dove to make the critical stop.
FC Dallas regained the lead in the 49th minute, with Musa notching his 12th goal of the season—putting him second in the league in scoring behind the Chicago Fire’s Hugo Cuypers.
San Jose equalized again in the 81st minute when Roberts scored off a corner kick, taking advantage of a failure to clear the ball from FC Dallas’s defensive end.
Sarver’s decisive goal came three minutes into stoppage time as he broke away from midfield and successfully beat San Jose’s goalkeeper.
