Mason Greenwood May Leave Marseille After Two Successful Seasons
Mason Greenwood could part ways with Marseille this summer following two impactful seasons with the French club. The former English international, who developed his skills at Manchester United‘s academy, has notably scored 48 goals in 80 appearances for Marseille.
Despite his on-field success, the club has been engulfed in controversy. Recently, manager Roberto De Zerbi departed from the club. Additionally, Director of Football Medhi Benatia has reportedly been a vocal critic of the 24-year-old. Greenwood has also avoided mandatory French lessons, contending that everyone in the dressing room communicates in English.
Paris FC has shown interest in acquiring Greenwood, with the club indicating plans to submit a bid late last month. An asking price of between €70-80 million has been cited by L’Équipe. The publication also notes that clubs from Italy, Spain, Germany, and Turkey have expressed interest as the summer transfer window approaches.
Currently, a return to the Premier League seems unlikely for Greenwood, who is not considering a move to the Saudi Pro League either. Meanwhile, Manchester United retains 40% of the player’s rights and stands to gain a substantial amount from any potential transfer.
While Greenwood’s next destination remains uncertain, the interest from several clubs suggests a bid may come shortly.
Attention now shifts to which club will initiate the bidding for the 24-year-old and whether their offer will align with Marseille’s €70-80 million asking price. If the bids fall short, Marseille will face the dilemma of either accepting a lower offer or holding firm on their high demands for the player.
