DR Congo Unveils Squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup Including Former Manchester United Players

DR Congo has officially confirmed its squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Many international teams are making their final selections ahead of the tournament this summer.

Several current and former Manchester United players have recently learned about their international futures. Tunisia has confirmed former Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri in their World Cup squad.

Curacao also officially called up former United winger Tahith Chong.

DR Congo has now added two more former Manchester United players to that list. The nation announced its squad via the DR Congo national team Instagram page ahead of this summer’s tournament.

Selected players include former Manchester United duo Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Axel Tuanzebe. Wan-Bissaka switched his international allegiance to DR Congo in 2025 after previously representing England at youth level. The right-back spent five years at Old Trafford, joining from Crystal Palace for £50 million in 2019.

During his time at Manchester United, Wan-Bissaka made over 130 appearances and helped the club capture both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup before transferring to West Ham United in 2024.

Tuanzebe was also included in the squad. The defender rose through Manchester United’s academy and was once seen as one of the club’s brightest defensive prospects. He won both the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award and the Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year during his development at Carrington.

Tuanzebe made 19 senior appearances for the club before departing permanently in 2023. He is now playing for Burnley after helping Ipswich Town secure promotion to the Premier League.

Belgium has confirmed Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens in their World Cup squad. DR Congo’s squad also includes Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki and experienced forward Cedric Bakambu.

The national team will compete in Group K alongside Portugal, Colombia, and Uzbekistan. For Wan-Bissaka and Tuanzebe, the tournament marks another significant milestone after both players decided to represent DR Congo at the senior international level in recent years.
