Manchester City 1 (Erling Haaland 90+5)

Bournemouth 1 (Junior Kroupi 39′)

Manchester City fought hard but settled for a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night. The result confirmed Arsenal as the 2025-26 Premier League champions. Junior Kroupi netted a stunning opener for Bournemouth in the first half, while Erling Haaland equalized in stoppage time, although it was not enough for Pep Guardiola’s side.

In the lead-up to the match, Pep Guardiola made two changes to the starting eleven that played against Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Gianluigi Donnarumma and Mateo Kovacic took the places of James Trafford and Omar Marmoush, who moved to the bench. There was some surprise that Rodri started, given his lack of sharpness in the previous game.

First half.

The match began with both teams showcasing bright play, but Bournemouth quickly pushed City back. Jeremy Doku registered the first shot on target for City in the fifth minute, but his weak effort was easily saved by Bournemouth’s Dorde Petrovic.

City have a goal ruled out for a clear offside.

City thought they had scored in the 12th minute when Erling Haaland set up Antoine Semenyo. However, Semenyo was offside, and the goal was disallowed. City started to take control of possession, but Bournemouth remained dangerous.

Bournemouth’s Evanilson had a chance to score in the 15th minute but missed from close range, shooting over the bar despite being unmarked. City’s defensive lapses allowed more opportunities, particularly down their right flank.

In the 28th minute, Haaland had a close-range shot blocked following a corner, with City maintaining the pressure in a fast-paced matchup.

Bournemouth takes the lead with a beautifully worked goal.

The first half ended with City needing to find a way past a determined Bournemouth side that exploited their weaknesses effectively.

Second half.

The second half began with City in desperate need of goals to keep their title race alive. Surprisingly, Guardiola opted against any substitutions at half-time.

Nico O’Reilly had a golden opportunity early in the half but was denied by a fantastic save from Petrovic. Bournemouth’s Evanilson also tested Donnarumma soon after, as Bournemouth continued to threaten.

Guardiola made a triple substitution in the 56th minute, bringing on Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden, and Savinho in an attempt to change the game’s dynamics.

Junior Kroupi curls an effort over the bar as Bournemouth pushes for a second goal.

Bournemouth created more quality chances, with Kroupi hitting a shot over the bar shortly after. City appeared fatigued and struggled to find clear-cut chances.

As time dwindled, City needed two goals for a possible victory. Bournemouth defended expertly, and City looked short on ideas as they sought to keep their title hopes alive.

David Brooks came close to sealing the match for Bournemouth in the 89th minute but his feeble shot was saved. In the dying moments, Brooks struck the post, leaving City with little time to respond.

With just minutes left, City earned a free kick in a key area but failed to convert, indicating their mounting frustration.

Erling Haaland gives Manchester City a chance of a miracle.

In a dramatic climax, Haaland equalized in the 95th minute, scoring off a rebound after a series of headers in the Bournemouth penalty area.

The match concluded with a draw, confirming Arsenal as the Premier League champions. Bournemouth’s strong performance ensured they secured European football for next season, while City faced uncertainty amidst a congested fixture schedule.
