Arsenal Clinches Premier League Title After Two Decades of Waiting

The Story Of Arsenal’s Season

Although Arsenal’s 2025/26 campaign was good, it was by no means a straightforward road to the title. After the summer and early fall fixtures, the team was second in the standings. They claimed their spot at the top of the league in October, after a match against West Ham United. A few underwhelming games from opponents like Liverpool or Manchester City put Arsenal in a rather comfortable position. Come December, they were still leading the league, with a five-point cushion separating them from the runners-up.

The following months cast doubt in the hearts of Arsenal’s fans. After a few goalless draws and disappointing losses, the team’s lead over Manchester City melted to only two points, with quite a bit of the season still to go. Those who followed the Premier League began wondering whether this was the beginning of the end for the Gunners. Were they destined to “bottle their lead” and finish second for the fourth year in a row?

Although Arsenal did increase the lead in the next few games, in April, the tide turned against them. Arsenal lost to Manchester City, their immediate rivals, and after the latter defeated Burnley, both teams were equal on points. Unfortunately for the Gunners, Manchester City beat them on goal difference, situating themselves at the coveted first spot.

Arsenal regained the lead towards the end of April and increased it in the first weeks of May. Despite their missteps, with only a few games to go, the team was in a very promising position.

The Final Stretch

Coming into their second-to-last matchday, Arsenal knew that a victory could mean getting the coveted Premier League trophy. At this point in the season, although they had the lead, Manchester City still posed a real threat. If both top teams achieved a comparable result in their respective games, the championship would go on to the last round. If Arsenal won and Manchester City did not, the latter’s hopes of the title would disappear.

Arsenal played first. They faced Burnley on May 18th and won after a corner that was converted into a goal by Kai Havertz. This meant that the only result that would keep Manchester City in the fight during the match they played the following day was a win. Everything was on the line as the team from Manchester lined up against Bournemouth.

Bournemouth scored first, jumping into the lead in only the 38th second and putting Manchester City in a rather uncomfortable situation. The team spent the rest of the game desperately seeking a goal. Although they did manage to find it in the 94th minute, it was too little, too late. The game ended in a draw that put Manchester City four points behind Arsenal with only one matchday to go. So, after 22 long years, the Gunners secured their fourth title in the Premier League.

End Of My Arsenal Rant

Despite the victory, Arsenal’s season is far from over. Alongside their Premier League campaign, the team has also impressed on the international level. They finished the league phase at the very top of the table, winning all eight games and easily advancing to the knockout stage. There, they eliminated Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting, and Atlético Madrid to make it to the finale, which they will play on May 30th against Paris Saint-Germain. Winning the Premier League is already an achievement in itself, but will they be able to add yet another trophy to their impressive season? Could this be the year of Arsenal’s ultimate domination?
