Manchester United‘s Michael Carrick Committed to Keeping Diogo Dalot

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick aims to retain Diogo Dalot, whom he views as a crucial element in his tactical framework.

The Portuguese international joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2018 and is regarded as one of the more experienced players in the squad. To date, he has made 246 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 10 goals and providing 20 assists.

Dalot initially found it challenging to secure a regular spot in the team, leading him to spend the 2020/21 season on loan at AC Milan. He returned to Old Trafford and subsequently became a key player for the club.

Carrick Unwilling to Let Dalot Leave Amid Transfer Rumors

Recently, Dalot has attracted interest from Real Madrid. The 27-year-old is reportedly a target for his former Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, who is set to finalize his return to the Spanish club.

However, according to a report from the Manchester Evening News, the Premier League side has no intention of parting ways with the player this summer, particularly as Carrick is keen to keep him on the roster.

The report highlights that while not every fan may favor Dalot, he is ‘valued’ at Manchester United for his character and professionalism, and is seen as a ‘real leader’ within the squad.

Marshall further notes that the Braga native played slightly out of position under Ruben Amorim, appearing as a wing-back on both flanks. However, his performances significantly improved after Carrick returned him to his natural right-back role. The head coach reportedly recognizes the full-back’s ‘underrated’ contributions to the team’s short-passing strategy.
