Veron Mosengo, former Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football, has been elected as the new head of Congolese football. He was the sole candidate in the running and received 60 out of 65 votes during the General Assembly held in Kinshasa on Wednesday.
During the voting process, there were two votes against Mosengo’s candidacy and two ballots deemed invalid. With this election, Mosengo will lead Congolese football for the next four years.
His leadership comes at a significant time as the Democratic Republic of Congo prepares to return to the World Cup after a gap of 52 years. The new president is anticipated to invigorate the football landscape in the country.
