Tottenham Reopens Talks with Manchester City for Savinho Amid Squad Overhaul
Tottenham Hotspur faced significant challenges last summer in their search for wide players, particularly following Son Heung-min’s departure. The North London club struggled to secure various targets intended to strengthen their attack.
In their pursuit of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, Tottenham engaged in talks, but delays in finalizing a fee allowed arch-rivals Arsenal to seize the opportunity and sign the talented player. Eze later proved instrumental in Arsenal’s title victory after a 22-year wait. Tottenham also missed out on Manchester City’s Savinho.
The Lilywhites made several attempts to secure Savinho’s signature last summer. The 22-year-old had even agreed to personal terms with Tottenham, indicating his interest in joining the squad. However, manager Pep Guardiola intervened, blocking the Brazilian’s transfer to maintain squad depth, and Savinho ultimately signed a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Unfortunately for Savinho, his season was marred by injury, limiting him to just seven starts and resulting in one goal and one assist in the Premier League. The addition of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth during the January transfer window further pushed him down the depth chart. However, following Guardiola’s departure from Man City, an opening for Savinho’s move may be on the horizon.
Tottenham Revives Interest in Savinho
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X, Tottenham has reignited their interest in Savinho after narrowly avoiding relegation. The club has resumed discussions with Manchester City to bring the Brazilian international to their squad, as new manager Roberto De Zerbi aims to reshape the team in his vision.
Savinho is reportedly “open” to the move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in search of regular playing time. However, Newcastle United is also keeping an eye on the player, posing potential competition for Spurs in their attempt to sign him.
Following a 1-0 victory over Everton that ensured their safety in the Premier League on the final day of the 2025/26 season, Tottenham is set to begin a significant squad overhaul. De Zerbi has vowed to make necessary changes, and if Spurs hope to reestablish themselves in European competitions next season, they will require additional reinforcements across various positions on the field.
