Manchester United‘s Manuel Ugarte Focuses on World Cup Amid Speculation

Several players from Manchester United are heading to the World Cup next month.

Performances on the biggest stage often reshape careers, and this upcoming World Cup is already being viewed internally as a key moment for a number of squad members.

With competition for places at Old Trafford increasing, individual form on international duty could prove decisive.

One midfielder in particular has now spoken candidly about where his head is at.

Manuel Ugarte, who has endured a difficult campaign at Manchester United, has managed eight Premier League starts and 22 league appearances in total, with 10 starts across all competitions, reflecting a season where consistent selection has been difficult to come by.

It has not been a straightforward year, and speculation around his future has already begun to surface.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, has reportedly explored options in Italy, with Napoli showing interest, Juventus/” rel=”noopener”>while Juventus have also been offered the player in recent discussions.

Back in March, CentreDevils exclusively reported that Manuel Ugarte was not fully satisfied with his situation at Old Trafford, adding further intrigue to his long-term role at the club.

Now, with his focus shifting to international duty, Ugarte has addressed both his mindset and what comes next after the tournament.

Manuel Ugarte opens up on Manchester United future

At a press conference this Monday at Carrasco Airport, he said he is fully locked in on his national team commitments.

“In recent months, my focus has been 100% on the World Cup. Now it’s time to get down to business and start training to face Saudi Arabia,” he commented.

When asked directly about his future at club level and whether he expects to remain at Manchester United beyond the tournament, Ugarte was deliberately non-committal, instead putting all emphasis on his international ambitions.

“I’m not thinking about what will happen next because when you finish your career, the best thing is to play in a World Cup for your country.

“I want to enjoy it and push myself to the limit,” he said.

He also responded to interpretations of end-of-season messaging from the club, which some fans felt carried a subtle farewell tone.

Rather than fuelling speculation, he was keen to underline his respect for the club.

“The World Cup is going to be crucial in determining everything. I’m open to whatever comes.

“This year wasn’t great in every sense, but I learned a lot mentally, I was surrounded by good people, and I’m trying to take the positives from it.

“We’ll see what happens at the World Cup. Whatever happens, I think it will be good,” he said.

He also added: “Manchester United is one of the best clubs in the world” and that he is well aware of his abilities.

Ugarte’s comments leave his future very much open-ended.

With the World Cup acting as a potential turning point, both player and club now appear to be waiting for the tournament to shape what comes next in a situation that is far from settled.
