Manchester United Nears £38 Million Deal for Ederson of Atalanta

Michael Carrick and the recruitment department have spent time assessing profiles capable of bringing something different into the centre of the pitch.

Several names were discussed internally, but one target has clearly emerged as the priority over recent days.

And United now appear to be closing in on a major breakthrough.

Manchester United have agreed a £38 million deal with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson, with the transfer expected to be completed this week, as reported by Times Sport.

According to Times Sport, negotiations between the two clubs intensified over the past week after Ederson made it clear that Old Trafford was his preferred destination despite growing interest from elsewhere in Europe.

Ederson Viewed as Casemiro Replacement

The Atalanta midfielder has been identified as a Casemiro replacement.

Atletico Madrid were also strongly interested in signing the Brazilian midfielder and had even agreed personal terms with the player.

However, the Spanish side reportedly became reluctant to fully meet Atalanta’s valuation, opening the door for United to take control of the race.

United moved quickly once they received encouragement from the player’s camp, with discussions now believed to be at an advanced stage.

The overall package is expected to be worth around £38 million, with previous reports indicating the structure includes approximately £35 million guaranteed plus a further £3 million in add-ons.

Ederson has already agreed personal terms with Manchester United on a long-term contract running until 2031, highlighting the club’s confidence in him becoming a key figure in Carrick’s new-look midfield.

The Brazilian is expected to become one of the first major arrivals this summer as United continue reshaping the squad.

Atalanta manager Raffaele Palladino recently all but confirmed the midfielder’s impending departure while discussing the growing transfer speculation and the reason why he was left out of the team last week.

“It was a decision we agreed with the boy because there’s something going on in the transfer market.”

After weeks of speculation, Ederson now looks set to be the midfielder United push across the line first.
