Tottenham Faces Key Decisions as Roberto De Zerbi Prepares for Squad Rebuild

Tottenham Hotspur did not replace the influential Son Heung-min after his departure last summer. This decision had consequences, as the team struggled with a noticeable decline in offensive strength throughout the previous season.

Despite these challenges, Spurs managed to secure their place in the Premier League. The relegation battle reached its climax on the final day, where Roberto De Zerbi’s team clinched a crucial 1-0 victory against Everton at home, simultaneously relegating their London rivals West Ham.

As Spurs look to enter a new chapter under De Zerbi, there is a pressing need to acquire new attacking players this summer, following disappointing performances from current team members. Xavi Simons, last season’s high-profile signing, had a tough year before suffering an ACL injury against Wolves. Wilson Odobert is likewise sidelined with a torn ACL, while Mathys Tel faced significant struggles during his first full season in North London.

Tottenham Keen on RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa

It comes as no surprise that Tottenham aims to bolster their wing position for the upcoming season. The recruitment team is tasked with finding a wide player who can compete with Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus, adding a fresh dimension to the Spurs’ attack.

Recent reports indicate that Tottenham is pursuing RB Leipzig’s promising star Antonio Nusa. Arsenal and Newcastle United are also reportedly interested in the young winger.

Antonio Nusa, often compared to Brazilian superstar Neymar, had a productive 2025/26 season with RB Leipzig, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances, contributing to RB Leipzig’s third-place finish and Champions League qualification. His performances have not gone unnoticed across Europe, which could lead to a significant transfer this summer.

According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, RB Leipzig is willing to sell Nusa for €50m this summer. This figure represents a decrease from the €60m they sought from AS Roma during the January transfer window, when the Serie A club expressed interest. That asking price was considered excessive, and ultimately a transfer did not occur, though AS Roma still retains interest in Nusa.

Tottenham Should Pursue Antonio Nusa

Nusa is a modern winger who combines speed, dribbling skills, spatial awareness, and game intelligence, making him well-suited to remedy Tottenham’s challenges on the flanks next season. Acquiring the 21-year-old could enhance Tottenham’s squad as De Zerbi aims to reestablish the club in European competition.

At an estimated €50m, Spurs have the opportunity to secure an exciting wide player with significant potential. Should Nusa realize his abilities in the future, it would represent a valuable acquisition for the Lilywhites.
